A Geotechnical Investigation of 2017 Chattogram Landslides

In this study, an attempt is made to uncover and discuss the geo-environmental characteristics, triggers, consequences of a landslide disaster in Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) region Bangladesh. The hilly areas are composed Tertiary Quaternary sediments which have been folded, faulted, uplifted and, then deeply dissected by rivers other water bodies. This paper presents case study on geotechnical investigation numerical modeling landslides 13 June 2017. A field visit soil sample collection, followed laboratory testing were conducted at landslide-afflicted areas. revealed that type was important factor behind landslides, while high precipitation, hill cutting, deforestation, unplanned human settlements act as contributing factors disaster. Extensive analysis facts has carried out, pinpoint cause. finite element using PLAXIS 2D investigate failure mechanism. results suggested most slopes susceptible after heavy rainfall. conclusion drawn triggered incessant rainfall infiltrating into subsoil, led notable increase its degree saturation simultaneous reduction suction shear strength soil.
